What do I need to consider?
Do you use the services of temporary workers who are supplied to you via an agency? During this period of uncertainty, many workers from the EU are choosing to return home however, local agencies in the Midlands are noting that there are still plenty of temporary workers available within the manufacturing and food production industries. The numbers of workers relocating from Bulgaria and Romania are slowing down. The initial concern will be if the GBP loses value as we approach March particularly if we have a ‘no deal’ exit. A weak pound will make employment within other countries such as France and the Netherlands more appealing, as their wages will go further.
What do I need to do?
Plan you workforce labour requirements as far in advance as you possibly can, inform your labour provider of your requirements as soon as possible. Maybe you would consider offering preferred agency workers, full time contracts with your company. Be aware that you may have to pay an introductory fee to the agency if you do this. Maybe you need to utilise a number of labour providers. Ask what facilities they offer to their workers, some provide accommodation, transport or flights home. Obviously those which offer the best terms attract the best workers (but their rates to you will also possibly be higher!).
